Zubaidi does not come to luck, it comes to a plan. From the night before to the run home, every hour has a job. Here is the full-day routine Kuwaiti boat anglers actually run.
Before you sleep, check wind and sea state. A strong shamal kills the plan, while light early-morning wind is what you want. Open B7R and look at the tide tables for Shuwaikh and Shuaiba with the wave and sea-state reading, then mark the tide change, because that is the golden window.
Prep bait the night before: shrimp, sardine and khaiti, cut to a size the zubaidi's small mouth can take. Fresh bait makes a real difference, and leftovers from the last trip will not cut it.
Head out of Shuwaikh or Fantas about 30 minutes before first light. The early window is cooler and calmer, and zubaidi sit closer to shore before the sun is up. Load the boat the night before: full fuel, safety gear, plenty of ice, the net and the sinkers, and charge your phone.
Zubaidi like sandy and muddy bottom in 20-40 m. Look for the bands where depth changes, because that is where fish gather. Watch the sounder, and if the marks are empty, start shallow and work deeper.
For the rig, run a long leader and a small hook, because the zubaidi's mouth is small and it feeds cautiously. Main line 30-40 lb with a lighter clear trace, and let the bait drift naturally on the bottom instead of over-weighting it.
Drift when the wind is light and the bottom is flat, because the bait then travels over the fish. Anchor when you find a real school and want to hold over it. Zubaidi take the bait and move, so do not strike on the first tap; give it a second or two.
The best bite is the hour either side of the tide change, when moving water turns fish on after slack. Work that window hard and freshen the bait every ten minutes.
The second a zubaidi comes aboard, into the ice box it goes, because the flesh is soft and spoils fast in the sun. Layer ice, fish, ice, and never leave them sitting in warm water.
Head back before sunset so you are not running in the dark, then rinse the boat and gear with fresh water and dry everything. Log the day: depth, time, bait and number of fish. That record is what makes the next trip better.
