You can rig the boat and load the cooler and still have a rough day, because the wrong shirt, the wrong shoes, or a missing dry bag can turn a good trip sour. Kuwait's water gives two different tests: the grilling heat of Qaiz and the wet, cutting wind of the winter barrad. Dress for both and the day runs itself.
From May to September the UV index here regularly passes ten, and out on the water you get the sun twice: straight down and bounced back off the sea. A plain cotton t-shirt is nearly useless once it is wet. Wear a light long-sleeved shirt with a UPF rating and flip the collar up. Your neck burns first, so a shemagh or wide-brim hat is the local answer that works. Add polarised sunglasses on a strap; reflected light tires your eyes fast.
From November to March, mornings and evenings on the water are cold and damp even when the marina feels mild. A windproof outer layer over a warm mid-layer beats one heavy jacket, and peel layers as the sun climbs. Keep a spare light jacket in the boat. Decks are always wet, and flip-flops slide, float away, and give you nothing to stand on at the ladder. Wear closed, non-marking shoes with a rubber sole and drainage holes. Sandals with a heel strap are fine if they cannot fall off. Skip heavy boots: hot, they hold water, and dangerous in the water.
Read the label for body weight and chest size, then test the fit: lift your arms, tighten the straps, and have someone pull up on the shoulders. If it rides over your ears it is too loose. Wear it while the boat is moving, at anchor in rough water, at night, and whenever kids or non-swimmers are aboard. Inflatables are comfortable but need servicing; a foam vest always works.
Fishing gloves let you handle line, hooks, and a hot anchor rope without shredded hands. A dry bag is the most underrated item on any list: spare t-shirt, light trousers, a towel, and your phone. Keep the phone in a clear waterproof pouch on a lanyard so it stays readable and out of the bilge.
Kids get cold and burned faster than adults. Give them a fitted life jacket tried on before the trip, a hat with a chin strap, a rash guard, and one full spare set of clothes in a dry bag. Avoid long drawstrings and pack their gear in one bag.
