Anyone who fishes Kuwait's waters knows the sea never stays the same. Summer brings warm water and steady north wind, winter brings cold water, and between them sit transition periods that catch people off guard. Wasmi and Sarayat are the two most important, and each has its own pattern of wind, water temperature and fish behaviour. Dates shift year to year, so treat any range as approximate. The seasons guide in the B7R app helps, but the daily sea state still decides whether you go out.
Wasmi is the light-rain season that arrives as the heat breaks, usually between mid-October and early December. Water temperature falls gradually from its summer peak, making the sea more comfortable and often more productive. Winds are more variable than in summer โ calm days mixed with moderate north wind, some cloud and scattered rain.
For fishing, Wasmi opens a good window for species that prefer moderate water. Zubaidi, sabaiti and hamour start moving over shallower grounds, and gabgab and safi show up more as conditions improve. But a first rain shower or a fast wind shift can turn the sea in half an hour.
Sarayat follows Wasmi, usually from late November into early January. Its signature is a strong, sudden north wind arriving in bursts, carrying dust that cuts visibility and roughens the sea. Local boaters call it the season that flips a trip โ calm in the morning, steep chop by afternoon.
Water temperature drops further toward its winter low, which redistributes the fish: some species move deeper, others push closer to the warmer shallows. Fishing can be excellent on the right day and dangerous on a bad forecast. Sarayat is not one continuous season but a series of pulses, with calm days between bursts.
Planning starts before the boat touches the water. Check the sea state: wave height, wind direction, speed and official warnings. The B7R app carries sea state and tides for Shuaikh and Shuaiba ports โ the practical information that tells you when to head out and when to return. Keep a bail-out plan: if Sarayat hits offshore, run for shelter instead of fighting the chop. Wear safety gear and know where the SOS button is before you need it.
Summer means very warm water, steady north wind most of the day, and fishing concentrated at dawn and dusk. Winter means colder water, dry north wind and a chance of rain. Wasmi is the bridge โ a gradual improvement. Sarayat is the violent stretch of that bridge: sharp swings and hard gusts.
In the B7R app the seasons guide sits alongside the fish guide and catch log, so you can see how fish activity shifts with each season. The app is free on Google Play and includes marine tools for planning a trip safely.
Wasmi and Sarayat matter to anyone going to sea in Kuwait, and the main lesson is that the water changes faster than any forecast. Use date ranges as a general signal and check the daily sea state before every trip. Safety first; the fish come after.
