Spring Fishing in Kuwait

Spring in Kuwait runs from March to May, and it's one of the best fishing windows of the year — if you read the sea right. The water warms, the fish shift their grounds, and the wind can flip the bay in an hour. What changes in the water

In mid-winter the Gulf off Kuwait sits around 15-17°C. By the end of May it passes the mid-20s. That jump rewires the whole food chain. Plankton blooms, baitfish multiply, and predators switch into feeding mode. Bottom fish like hamour leave their deep winter holes, while inshore species push closer to the coast. Expect stronger bites, longer feeding windows, and much better odds than in January.

Which fish are active in spring

These are the main targets from March to May:

• Shaeri (yellowfin seabream): moves onto reefs and inshore grounds; bites hard from March through April.
• Zubaidi (silvery pomfret): numbers pick up in April and May, often around Shuwaiba.
• Mullet (biah): schools on muddy shores and near inlets — easy, fun fishing for beginners.
• Hamour and nwaibi (groupers): start leaving deep holes as the water warms.
• Kan'ad (kingfish): shows up toward the end of May, chasing bait near the surface.

Short version: March is bottom-fish month. By April and May you get a wider mix, including fast surface species.

Spring winds and sea conditions

Spring in Kuwait means the hboob — a northwest wind that builds fast and roughs up the sea, usually after midday. Mornings are often flat calm; afternoons can be a different world. If a hboob is forecast, stay ashore. The trip will wait, the sea won't.

The southeast wind (kous) warms the water and turns the fish on, but it brings a choppy sea with it. Your best windows: early-morning departures or settled days with light wind and clear skies.

Best times to head out

Dawn to around noon is the prime slot, especially the first two hours after high tide. Rising water pushes fish toward the shore and feeding peaks hard; dead low tide is usually slow.
