Kuwait's long coastline and offshore islands make it a natural stop for seabirds, especially during migration seasons. The most familiar bird is the gull, which follows fishing boats and hangs around fish farms. It's the white one with the loud calls. Quieter beaches and islands like Jara, Umm Al-Maradim, and Umm Al-Naml are popular rest stops for migrating birds. Tidal flats and creeks are also good spots: when the tide goes out, small fish and crabs come close to the surface, and the birds know it.
No boat? No problem. Bring a chair, sit by the water, and watch the birds move with the tide. If you do go out on a boat, small vessels often attract curious birds that fly alongside, especially near fishing activity.
Early morning and late afternoon are the golden hours, when the birds are most active and hunting for food. Autumn and spring are the migration seasons: birds pass through Kuwait on their way between Europe, Asia, and Africa, so you may spot species you won't see at any other time of year.
