Qaiz Season: Shore and Night Plans Instead of the Hot Day

Qaiz is the stretch of the Kuwaiti summer when the day is not worth fishing. From mid-morning the sun flattens the shallows, the shore empties, and the only people catching anything are the ones who slept or the ones who waited. Why pre-dawn and post-sunset sessions work better

Car prep: water, shade and gear

The car is your base for the night, so set it up before you leave, not after you arrive:

• More drinking water than you need, plus a small jerrycan for rinsing hands and gear.
• A shade awning or tarp, a chair with a canopy, a cap and a light cotton scarf.
• A cooler for bait and water; never leave bait sitting in the sun.
• A power bank and car charger, plus a headlamp with a red mode for tying rigs.
• A first-aid kit with cold packs and burn gel.

Heat-safety rules that are not negotiable

Drink water on a schedule rather than waiting to feel thirsty, and go easy on heavy coffee and sugary drinks. Wear light, loose cotton and cover your head and neck. Work in shade and take breaks; treat dizziness, headache or stopped sweating as a stop signal — get out of the sun, cool down, drink, and seek medical help if it does not pass. Never leave anyone alone in the heat, and keep children supervised near the water at all times.

Stay close instead of long runs

Qaiz is the wrong season for a two-hour run to a distant mark. The near shoreline gives you the same night out with less fuel, less driving and a faster trip home if the weather turns.
