Not every sunny day is a good day for the sea in Kuwait. A clear sky can hide a stiff wind that turns the water into a washing machine by mid-morning. Picking the right day for a boat trip is a skill, and it starts with reading the forecast like a skipper instead of like a tourist.
Good trip weather is boring weather. Light wind under 12 knots, waves below half a meter, and visibility that lets you see the coastline clearly. In summer the ideal window is often early morning, before the sea breeze builds. In winter, wait for the wind to settle after a shamal has passed.
Wind direction matters as much as speed. In Kuwait the dangerous one is the northwest shamal. A light south or east wind usually means a calmer sea, while any strong northwest wind should make you think twice.
Before you cast off, open a marine forecast and check three numbers: wind speed in knots, wave height in meters, and the tide at the port you launch from.

A fishing trip can handle a rougher sea. Fishermen usually want the tide moving, and a chop of half a meter rarely bothers them. A family trip is different. Kids, guests, and picnic gear need a flat sea and light wind, full stop.
If you are taking the family out, hold out for the calmest window in the forecast. If you are fishing alone or with a small crew, you can push the limits a little, but never past what your boat and your experience can handle.
Some days you simply stay home. Thunderstorms can build suddenly over the Gulf in spring and early summer. A shamal warning means wind over 25 knots and waves that build fast. Poor visibility from fog or dust means you cannot see other boats until it is too late.
If the forecast shows any of these, cancel without guilt. The sea will still be there next weekend, and a canceled trip beats a tow back to the marina โ or worse.
