Bridges hold fish. That is exactly what makes them risky. A bridge cuts the current, bait collects around the pillars, and at night the same structure puts you beside moving traffic, unlit railings and a drop you cannot see.
Pillars and edges break the flow, so current speeds up around them and fish hold in the slack water waiting for food. That is the good part. The bad part is the same current: if you slip, it does not carry you gently along the shore, it pulls you under the structure.
Then there is the road. Some Kuwaiti bridges have no walkway, and standing on the edge of a live lane at night is not a fishing decision, it is a gamble. Many railings are unlit and a rusted rail is not a lifeline.
And there are boats. A skipper passing under a bridge at night cannot see you or your line. Do not cast and walk away, and do not haul hard on a snag you cannot identify.
A headlamp is standard kit, but a bright constant beam ruins your peripheral vision โ you stop noticing people outside the hotspot. Use a small ground lamp for rigging and steps, and keep the headlamp low or red when you move.
Keep bags and rods off the walkway. Anything left on the deck in the dark is something someone will trip over.
Never sit on the railing, never lean your weight on it, and never climb over it. Most bridge falls start with someone climbing back over and losing their grip on the way down.
Hooks travel fast and a cast has a wide arc. Leave space between you and the next angler, and look behind you before every throw. Wear a life jacket if there is any chance at all of going in โ not because you fear the water, but because current, cold and fatigue do things to strong swimmers.
Call emergency services first and give the location clearly: which bridge, which side, which landmark. Do not jump in after them โ a panicking swimmer takes the rescuer down too. Throw something that floats: a sealed container, a buoy, a line with floats, a cooler lid. Then keep talking to them and keep them in sight.
Fatigue is part of safety too. Heat drains you in the day, night damp takes your focus, and insects at the lights finish the job. Take water, a jacket and insect spray, and leave before exhaustion decides.
