Tides are not random. The moon drives them, and any angler in Kuwait who learns to read the moon can predict when the water will move hard and when it will barely move at all.
The moon's gravity pulls the sea toward it, bulging the water on the side facing the moon and on the opposite side as well. As the Earth spins, most coasts see roughly two highs and two lows each day.
The lunar day is longer than ours: about 24 hours and 50 minutes. That is why high tide shifts roughly 50 minutes later every day, and why yesterday's timetable will not work today.
At the new moon and the full moon, the sun, moon and Earth line up. Their gravitational pull combines into a stronger tide, called a spring tide โ nothing to do with the spring season.
For you this means a bigger difference between the highest high and the lowest low. More water moves, the current runs harder, and fish that feed on moving water switch on.
About a week after a full or new moon, the moon sits at a right angle to the sun. The two pulls work against each other instead of together, so the range shrinks. These are neap tides.
Neap days mean smaller ranges, calmer water and a very different bite than the peak moon days.
The moon's orbit is an ellipse, so it is sometimes closer to Earth (perigee) and sometimes farther (apogee). When a new or full moon lines up with perigee, you get a supermoon โ and a noticeably higher, stronger tide.
Spring tides flush oxygen and food through the shallows, and species that follow the current feed aggressively on those days. Neap tides suit deeper marks and calmer presentations.
Wind still matters: a strong shamal can swamp the moon signal entirely, so always check the sea state before you decide anything.
Shallow flats and reef edges react fastest. On a big spring tide the water pushes further in and drains further out, so a mark that fishes well at dead low may be dry ground two hours later.
Check the moon phase first, then pull up the tide table. B7R gives you tide times for Shuaiba and Shuwaikh ports, plus sea state and a fish guide, and you can log the result of every trip in the catch log.
Write down the moon phase next to your result after each trip. Within a few outings you will see your own pattern, and that is worth more than any generic advice.
