Messila and Kabd: Launch Points

B7R Blog

Messila and Kabd are both launch areas south of Kuwait City, but they are not the same kind of trip. Messila is close, quick to reach, and easy to do in a morning. Kabd is the longer run south, with more room and less pressure on the water. The right choice depends on what you are doing, how big the boat is, and when the tide turns.

Messila: easy access, busy timings

The main advantage of Messila is distance. From loading the car to having the boat in the water takes minutes, which makes it the sensible pick for a short evening run or a light early session. The downside is the same: everyone arrives at once. Early morning on weekends and late afternoon when boats come back are the two peaks.

If you are towing, arrive at least thirty minutes before the rush and rig up in the open area, not on the slipway. A ramp is not a place to load gear, tie down, or diagnose an engine that will not start. Every extra minute on the ramp holds up everyone behind you.

Trailer parking fills fast and needs more room than a car space. Pick your spot and your reversing line before you commit.

Kabd: the southern entry for longer trips

Kabd feels different. The shoreline is wider, the pressure is lower, and it is a natural starting point for trips that run further south or that want to avoid the main coastal crowd. The trade-off is a longer drive and fewer services, so everything needs to be sorted before you leave the house.

There is no single well-known launch spot there, and the situation changes with the season. Ask locally before you go, and if possible look at the ground once without a boat. Check that the route suits your trailer: parts of the approach are sandy and unpaved, and four-wheel drive sometimes makes the difference.

The tide window decides the day

In the south, the gap between high and low water can turn a good plan into a stuck trailer. Launch at the bottom of the tide and you may not get back out loaded. Launch near high water and you have depth, but your return has to happen before the water drops again.

Check the tide times for Shuaiba and Shuwaikh ports in the B7R app before you set a launch time, then set your return time off the same numbers, not off a guess about daylight.

Before you launch, and how to share the space

The area is shared and the next crew has the same right to it as you do. Do not rope off space on the sand with gear, do not run a speaker at full volume, and leave room between your setup and the next. Where families or swimmers are close, move at walking pace until you are well clear.

Keep the SOS button within reach. Safety is not paperwork, it is the difference between a story you tell and one you would rather not.
