Summer in Kuwait is a different sea. From June to September, the qaiz heat pushes air temperatures past 45ยฐC, the humidity hangs thick over the water, and the sea follows a daily rhythm that every skipper should know by heart. Read it right and you get flat water and good fishing; read it wrong and you spend the afternoon bouncing in chop.
Kuwait's sea surface temperature climbs through the summer, reaching around 32โ34ยฐC by August. The water feels bath-warm, and that warmth changes everything: it feeds the humid air, slows the fish at midday, and makes the coast feel like a steam room even when the wind blows.
The humidity is the part newcomers underestimate. Air that feels wet and heavy makes sweat useless โ your body cannot cool itself and heat builds up faster than you expect. On the water, with the sun reflecting off the sea, conditions feel worse than the forecast number suggests.
Most summer days follow the same script. In the early morning the sea is at its calmest โ flat, glassy water with barely a ripple, because the land cooled overnight and the wind has not woken up yet. This golden window is why experienced crews leave the harbour at first light.
By mid-morning the sun heats the desert, the air starts moving and the northerly shamal begins to build. Through the afternoon it picks up steadily and roughens the water, especially in open areas away from the coast. The pattern holds from June right through September.
That is why the safe summer pattern is a dawn departure and an early return. Be out at first light, fish before the heat and the chop build, and be back at the dock before the worst of the afternoon. Check tide times for Shuwaikh and Shuaiba ports in the B7R app so your early start lines up with the tide.
On a summer boat trip the biggest danger is not the sea state โ it is heat exhaustion. Symptoms start quietly: headache, dizziness, nausea, heavy sweating that suddenly stops. By the time someone feels really bad, they are already in trouble, and you are far from shore.
Prevention is simple. Drink water constantly, not only when you feel thirsty, and bring more than you think you need. Wear light clothing and a hat, rig shade over the deck, and wet yourself down with sea water to stay cool. Salty snacks help replace what you sweat out. And watch children and older passengers closely โ they feel the heat fastest.
If anyone shows signs of heat exhaustion, get them into the shade, pour water over them and head back immediately. Call for help if needed โ the B7R app has an SOS button for emergencies, so keep your phone charged and within reach.
Summer trips in Kuwait are about timing, not endurance. Go with the sea's daily rhythm โ dawn out, early back, water in hand โ and June to September stays one of the best seasons on the water.
Plan your next trip โ check tides, sea state and seasons before you head out.
