Fishing Tips During Low Tide: A Kuwait Shore Guide

Low tide is when shore anglers get to see the ground they have been casting over all year. It is also when the fish have less water to work with, and the easiest mistake is to arrive, cast, and leave without reading the window. This guide covers the timing, where the fish go, how to walk the flats, and when to get out.

Read the Low-Tide Window First

The best stretch is the last part of the ebb and the first of the flood, when the sea starts returning and fish move back toward shore with it. Get the exact low-water time and plan to be set up about an hour before it.

Wind matters as well. A strong wind can push water above or below the predicted level, so leave a margin rather than cutting it fine.

Where the Fish Go When the Water Drops

As the water retreats, fish pull back into the deeper channels, the edges of weed and rock, and any hollow that still holds water. Fishing the dry flats is wasted effort.

• Channels and small holes: where small fish gather and bigger fish follow.
• Weed and rock edges: cover that fish use through the whole tide.
• The edge of the shallow water: passing fish moving with the returning tide.

Walking Sandbars and Flats Safely

Exposed sand is not uniform. Soft mud, sudden drop-offs and buried rock are easy to find in a hurry and hard to see in bright glare. Take short steps, test the ground before shifting your weight, and treat soft mud as a no-go.

Watch the water constantly. If it is rising at your feet, move. Never walk out onto a sandbar or spit when you cannot judge where it gets cut off, and never go alone.

Bait and Lures for Shallow Water

In clear, shallow water fish are easily spooked, so go small and light.

• Light line with just enough weight to reach the channel.
• Small surface or shallow-running lures through the last of the ebb.
• A static bait on the bottom of a hole that still holds fish.

Match the bait to what is around you: shrimp and squid are dependable, and small lures cover more ground when the window is short.

When the Tide Turns

The turn is the busiest part of the trip, and also the point where you should already be thinking about your exit. Incoming water moves faster than it looks on an open flat, and once it covers the soft ground your route back gets harder. Pick a fixed landmark, watch it, and start moving while you are still comfortable.
