Most people try the first two hours after sunset and come back with nothing. Early evening still holds the day's heat, so the water close to shore sits warm and barely moving. The window that produces in a Kuwaiti summer starts later, roughly nine at night until about two in the morning.
At sunset the sand and rock on the shore are still hot and the water is still giving back the day's heat, which leaves a warm surface layer and slow movement near the beach. After a few hours the night air is cooler than the water, the surface starts to shed that heat, and the night breeze is lighter than the daytime wind, so the water is cleaner and less stirred. Shallow water cools faster than deep water, and that shift is what moves fish.
Bait movement is the part that matters most. When bait pushes shallow, the fish you want follow it, so fishing a spot with rock or a mooring close to shallow ground gives you a shorter and cleaner cast.
Shaeri stays active around rock and moorings well after sunset. Hamour holds near the bottom but edges shallower as the water cools. Chanad is more of a boat target when baitfish are around. Squid and octopus come shallow over rock and sand after dark and take light tackle well. If the main target goes quiet, keep a light rod rigged and work the small stuff instead of sitting and waiting.
Light matters, but more is not better. Keep your headlamp dim or red while you work with your hands so you keep your night vision, and put the bright lamp on the shore or on a float where you want to gather bait. Your anchor light should be on and clearly visible to other boats, and the rest is discipline.
