Winter changes the Kuwaiti sea. The water that cooked all summer drops several degrees, the days get shorter, and the northwesterly shamal starts deciding which days you can actually leave the harbour. For anglers this is not a slow season โ it is the one many wait for all year.
Summer pushes fish deep and slows them down. As the Gulf cools through late autumn and into winter, that reverses. Cooler, better-oxygenated water brings fish back toward the coast and close to the bottom, where they feed harder than they do in the heat. That single shift is why winter trips often out-fish summer ones.
It also means tides and time of day matter more, because the feeding windows are shorter and sharper. Read the tide instead of guessing.

The shamal is the defining feature of the Kuwaiti marine winter. It builds fast, raises a short, steep chop, and can turn a calm morning into a rough afternoon. Plan around it: fish the sheltered side of a spot, and keep trips short when the forecast is marginal.
Treat any change in wind as your signal to head in early. Check sea state before every trip, not the land forecast โ the sky over Kuwait City tells you nothing about the water off Shuaiba.
Daylight is short, so use it well. The two strongest windows are usually the first hours after sunrise and the last hour before dark, when fish feed most confidently in cool water. Work those around the moving tide โ the first two hours of a rising or falling tide often produce more than slack water.
