Winter in Kuwait is not one long season. Every month from November to March has its own wind pattern, its own working conditions and a different mix of fish showing up. Treat this as a general map, not a promise.
Air temperatures start dropping and the shamal blows more often, while the water is still comfortable. Many anglers rate this month highly because fish feed actively again after the summer heat.
Commonly targeted around the islands and inshore in this window: hammour, nagroor and sabaiti, along with coastal species close to the reefs.
December usually brings the first genuinely cold mornings and nights, and the shamal makes the sea choppy more regularly. Tide timing deserves attention because you are often fishing narrow windows.
Zubaidi and speedy begin to show on deeper sand, and night trips demand proper layers and good lighting.
January is generally the coldest month, and the clear air gives excellent visibility to the horizon. That clarity can change fast when a cold front pushes through, so keep the date flexible and make the final call from the sea state that morning.
Hammour and zubaidi are favourites among local anglers in this window, especially around Umm Al Maradim, Kubbar and the deeper grounds.
February carries a higher chance of rain and fast-moving fronts that can change the sea within a short time. Rain itself is not the problem; reduced visibility and water collecting in the boat are.
Fishing between fronts stays good this month, with the same core species: zubaidi, speedy and nagroor. Keep a spare dry layer sealed in a bag so one wet morning does not end the trip early.
March is a transitional month. Days warm up but the wind stays unsettled, particularly in the afternoon, so it suits shorter trips and inshore work with a closer eye on the late-day sea state.
Zubaidi is still around, and inshore species move back toward the beaches and shallow reefs. Do not read calmer weather as a guarantee, and keep wet-weather gear aboard through the end of the month.
