Kuwait Fish Calendar by Month: Which Fish When

Which fish, in which month? It is the first question every new angler in Kuwait asks, and the answer is not the same all year. Our water changes temperature and movement month by month, and every species has its own mood and season. Here is a short practical calendar to help you point your effort in the right direction.

January and February: zubaidi peak, cold water

• Zubaidi at its best and its most expensive — deep bottom fishing with fresh bait
• Saboor active in cold water, close to rocks and structure
• Mullet (beyah) thick along the coast and near channels
• Last weeks of the shrimp season, so use them before the closure

Watch for strong shamal winds, and remember that cold water means more patience on the bait.

March and April: a moving transition season

• Shaem start pushing inshore and take almost any bait
• Hamour wake up as temperatures climb, best around rock
• Mead show up on light gear and sandy bottom
• Kingfish (kanad) thin out, but deep-water chances remain

This is the best stretch of the year to experiment: try a new depth or a new bait before the heat builds.

May and June: Qaiz begins and the pattern shifts

• Saboor and mead are the headline names on dawn trips
• Hamour excellent over rock and marine structures
• Shaem go quiet in the hot middle of the day and return at night
• Lure fishing works well on the species holding close to shore

Once the heat starts, you need to be on the water before sunrise, and fresh bait matters more than at any other time.

July and August: short sessions only

Peak Qaiz. Two short trips beat one long one: dawn and late afternoon. Deep bottom fishing at night also produces well. This is where tide tables earn their keep, because slow moving water is what brings fish within reach in these two months — pull up B7R, check tide times for Shuwaikh and Shuaiba, and plan around the calmest moving water rather than the clock.

September and October: kingfish and shrimp

• The kingfish season opens strong — one of Kuwait's classic autumn fish
• The shrimp season starts in territorial waters, big news for trawler crews
• Sbiti and koffia appear as the water cools
• Shaem and hamour stay active through the change

November and December: zubaidi returns with the cool weather

• Zubaidi opens its new season, with high demand in the first weeks
• Mullet back along the shore in big numbers
• Kingfish hold on until the end of their run
• Shaem and saboor remain steady winter names
