Jellyfish are a normal part of Kuwait's waters, especially in summer when the sea warms up and goes calm. Most species here produce a sting that is painful but not dangerous, and the pain usually fades within hours. What makes a sting worse is rarely the jellyfish itself โ it is the wrong response afterwards. Here is what to actually do.
Once rinsed and cleared, apply hot water โ 40 to 45ยฐC โ for 20 to 45 minutes, or use hot compresses. Heat breaks down the venom proteins and relieves pain faster than anything else. After that you can take a normal painkiller and an antihistamine if you carry one, and watch for any allergic reaction.
Go to a hospital immediately if the sting is on the face, near the eyes, or in the mouth; or if you see difficulty breathing, dizziness, nausea, severe throbbing pain, or many stings on one person. Anyone with a known allergy needs faster care. Children and older adults react more severely, so do not wait if something looks abnormal.
The best treatment is prevention. Before heading out, check sea conditions in the B7R app โ jellyfish are common in warm, calm water, so on a hot, still summer day expect them near the shore.
If you go out with the family, pack a small bottle of vinegar and put rash guards on the kids โ and if you see a jellyfish in the water, move to another spot calmly. The B7R app gives you sea conditions before you get surprised by anything out there.
