Kuwait's breeding season is not a fixed calendar date. It usually runs through spring and into early summer as Gulf water warms up, and it shifts year to year with temperature. Knowing how fish behave before and after it is the cheapest upgrade you can make to your catch rate: no new gear, just better timing.
The short version: before the spawn fish are loading up on energy, after it they are hungry and roaming. In between there is a quiet stretch where the sea feels empty but the fish are simply somewhere else.
Species spawn at different times, and it is driven by water temperature and daylight, not by the date on your phone. Hamour, zubaidi, maid and sheim all respond to warming shallows.
So treat it as a window, not a single week. Water temp and lengthening days are your real trigger.
In the weeks before spawning, bottom fish build fat and protein reserves. They hit bait harder and hold tighter to structure than they will a month later.
This is the strongest window of the year for bottom fishing. Go fresh and generous with bait: squid, shrimp or a whole small fish, and keep the rig simple and heavy.
When spawning starts, fish gather in specific spots and often push into shallows they ignore the rest of the year. That is why people report "no fish" โ the fish left your mark, not the area.
This is where tide tables pay off. Use the tide tables and sea-state readout in the B7R app to pick the hours when water is actually moving, instead of fighting slack water all afternoon.
Once spawning ends, fish come off a period of reduced feeding and need to catch up. It is often one of the best stretches of the year, especially along reef edges and drop-offs.
Then they spread out again and sit slightly deeper. Re-read your marks and shift your drift instead of hammering the same pin.
| Factor | Before spawn | After spawn |
|---|---|---|
| Bait | Fresh, chunky, generous | Fresh, neater, smaller cuts |
| Rig | Short leader, bottom-hugging | Allow a little more movement |
| Ground | Rock and reef edges | Drop-offs and wider ground |
| Timing | Moderate moving tide | Any window with real water movement |
No single date works for every port or species. Log every trip in the B7R catch log โ depth, tide stage, bait, result โ and after a couple of months your own pattern shows up clearly.
If a session comes back empty, it does not mean the spot is dead. It may just be in transition. Fish the same mark two weeks later with the same method and compare before you write it off.
