Family Sea Day: Planning a Boat Trip With Kids in Kuwait

B7R Blog

Pick the Day Before You Pick the Spot

The weather decides the whole trip. A family sea day only works when the water is calm, and chop above 1 meter is not worth it with small children.

In Kuwait the best months are October to November and March to April: mild air, warm water, hours of comfortable time out. In July and August, launch at first light or after 4 pm โ€” midday sun is brutal on kids.

Before you set a date, check B7R for sea state and wave conditions, and look at the seasons while you plan.

Where to Go With Young Kids

Don't go far. With kids under six, stay within sight of shore, so you can be back at the dock in 20 minutes.

Don't pick a long run on your first trip; try a short one, then go further next time.

Pack the Night Before

Do everything the night before. The families rushing at 7 am are the ones that forget the life jackets.

Check the boat too: fuel, anchor, rope, coolant. Fill the tank before the marina, not the dock.

Safety Rules That Actually Work

One rule beats all others: no child in the water without a life jacket, even in shallow water. Count heads every time you move, and give each kid a fixed seat.

Before you start the engine, make sure everyone is sitting and holding something solid, and tell them clearly you're about to move. Teach them one signal โ€” a whistle or a raised hand โ€” for when they need you.

Keep one adult who can swim with the kids at all times.

Food and Things to Do on the Water

Light food sits better with kids than heavy meals. Sandwiches, cucumber, carrots, and cold fruit work well. Skip soda and fried food.

If you pull a net or trap, check the rules first and put life jackets on everyone.

Keep the Schedule Short and Flexible

Three to four hours is plenty with small kids. Longer than that and you get meltdowns instead of memories. Plan a rhythm: swim, eat, rest, then head back.

Before heading home, check the tide. Shallow areas drain fast on a falling tide and you can ground the boat โ€” always come back on a rising tide.

At the dock, let the kids off one at a time with an adult, then do a head count.

Planning the day gets easier. B7R gives you tide tables for Shuaiba and Shuwaikh, a fish guide, and an SOS button for emergencies โ€” all free on Google Play. Download it before your next family trip: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.q8dm.b7r
