Most anglers keep a catch log. Very few read it. The gap between the two is about ten minutes of review after each trip, and it is the difference between a diary and a decision tool. The log is not a record of good days; it is the evidence you use before you plan the next one.
Keep it short enough that you will still do it in month three. Seven fields, filled at the ramp:
Log the blanks too. A zero is data, not failure, and it is the entry that stops you repeating the same mistake next weekend.
Wrote down eight fish and nothing else? That tells you nothing next season. Wrote down eight, first one an hour before high water, spring tide, wind against current? Now you have a hypothesis you can test. Wind works the same way: two days of the same direction change the water colour over shallow ground, and the fish shift with it.
Once a week, read your last five trips and answer three questions. Which trip was best? What was different about it? What did the weak trips have in common? Do not draw conclusions from a single outing.
Once a month, total the simple numbers: trips, fish, and your best three sessions. Then plot hooks against time of day on paper. The dots bunch up fast, and a clear window appears, usually an hour either side of the tide turn.
Before you leave, open last month's entries and pick the tide window that produced most often for you, then match it to the forecast. This is where the B7R app earns its place: check tide times for Shuwaikh and Shuaiba, look at sea state before you fix the date, and record the result in the catch log inside the same app. Then choose your bait from the fish guide based on the seasonal species, and check the seasons section before you book a day off.
The final plan is two lines: where I am going, and what time I will be there. Decisions get faster, and wasted trips drop because you stop repeating what does not work.
You do not need an expensive logbook, just a habit. Run it for one month and judge the difference yourself. Get the B7R app free on Google Play and start with your next trip: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.q8dm.b7r
