Al-Rai: Boat Storage and Services North of Kuwait City

B7R Blog

Al-Rai sits on the coast north of Kuwait City, and most owners who keep a hull there are after the same thing: a yard spot or a small berth close to the water, with a ramp they can use without a fight. The gap between a boat that is ready and a boat parked somewhere inconvenient shows up entirely on launch day.

Start with the ramp, not the price

Ask about the ramp first. Does it run straight into the water, or is there sand and mud between the concrete and the sea? Will it take your hull and trailer weight? A heavy boat needs a workable slope and enough depth at launch. Go and look at low tide, not high โ€” that is when you find out whether the trailer rolls down or digs in.

Then the road in: can you reach the gate with a car and trailer without a three-point turn in a blind alley? A site opening onto a main road is easier to live with than one buried in a residential block.

Security, water and power

A fence, a gate log and cameras are basics, not extras. Ask whether someone is on site around the clock, and whether there is a number that gets answered at night. Fresh water to rinse salt off the engine and power for a battery charger matter just as much โ€” confirm whether they are included or metered separately:

Distance to open water

Being near the shore is not the same as being near the fishing grounds. Time it from casting off the lines to the first spot you actually want to fish, then add the run home. A site ten minutes away by car can still cost you an extra hour every trip.

Getting the boat ready for the season

For long dry storage, lift the hull off the ground and block it properly, deal with the fuel as the engine manual says, and disconnect the battery. Cover the boat with a breathable mesh rather than sealed plastic that traps moisture. Rinse the trailer free of salt and check the tyres, because they crack faster standing still than rolling.

Tide and wind before you leave

Al-Rai feels the tide like the rest of the northern shore. The ramp is easier at high water; on a low tide you need a longer run or a gentler launch. A north-westerly builds a short, choppy sea that makes the run home harder than the run out. Check sea state and tide in B7R before you move, and remember the published tide figures are for Shuwaikh and Shuaiba, so stay cautious when you are working away from those ports.

Log every trip: where you launched, what the tide was doing, how the weather felt. If a spot in Al-Rai fits, do not sign on the first visit โ€” walk it at low tide, ask the questions above, and get the terms in writing. Then Download B7R on Google Play and plan the trip before you plan the berth.
